LGBTOUT presents The Homohop!

After a long hiatus, LGBTOUT is reviving the Homohop and bringing it to the Barn Nightclub.

As always, this event will be all-ages. The first and second floor will be all ages and the third floor will be a drinking level.

$3.00 for students before 10pm
$5.00 before 11pm
$7.00 after 11pm

The night will be packed with huge performances by Miss Gay Toronto Devine Darling and Drag Idol Contestants Ivory Gawth, Tyler Uptight and Luna Mercedes.

As well, there will be an amateur drag show on the first floor starting at 9:30 for anyone who wants to strut their stuff for the audience. Please stay posted for more info.

The fabulous DJ's lined up for the Homohop will be Nik Red and Quinces (functioning on multi-floors) and an opening set by the Panic Mechanics.

The Homohop is also sponsored in part by UTSU and SEC.

There will be mandatory coat check and bag check as well as pat downs, so if you are bringing things you shouldn't be bringing - don't. The smoking patio will also only be accessible to the 19+ crowd.

On Thursday, March 5th 2009, St. Marc Spa teams up with the queer student organizations of University of Toronto and York University to present the first ever ALL Ontario queer student bathhouse party for both men and women: The First Annual Hawt Spring Break Spa Luau.

In a order to dispel the myth of the bathhouse and in a bold move to firmly establish St. Marc Spa as more than a place of sex, the newly renovated sauna throws open its doors to ALL Ontario students. After meetings between representatives of the three downtown universities, Ryerson, U of T and York, hearing their ideas and addressing their concerns, a new type of student event was born.

Hosted by U of T's LGBTOUT, the event is open to all students who attend any Ontario post secondary institution including Ryerson, York, OCAD, George Brown, and Queens to OCAD and George Brown.

Not simply a party that gives a glimpse into one small aspect of queer culture, this unique event will also be an opportunity to get schooled. Male and female representatives from most Toronto AIDS organizations such as ACT, BLACKCAP and ACAS will be on hand, in their own rooms, to answer any questions about safe sex that students may have. As well, U of T's sexual education center (SEC) will be on sight making there own mischief. St. Marc Spa is determined that everyone who enters its doors at this event and at any other time practices safe sex.

Student ID for the event is mandatory. All students must be over 18 and have valid ID. All guests must be accompanied by a student and must also have valid ID.

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to inform everyone about LGBTOUT's General Meeting (GM)
which will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009 at Sussex Club House in
room 503 from 6-9pm.
Of course the actual GM will probably not fill up this allotted time.

However, there will be some constitutional amendments presented at the
end of the GM which will be debated and put on a slate to be voted on
at the next GM. The discussion could be long or short, which is why we
are conducting the discussion at the end of the GM. Once the
amendments are discussed and put forward by the executive, they will
be sent out over the listserv for everyone's viewing. The following
GM, everyone will have an opportunity to put forward there vote to
accept or decline the amendments.

Below is a rough outline of the General Meeting agenda that will be
chaired by Corey Scott:

Hi everyone, LGBTOUT is offering another training session for Drop-In
Centre Volunteers on January 17, 2009 at 12 pm. This is a great
opportunity to develop your skills and join the LGBTOUT team.

WHAT: A comprehensive training seminar to help you prepare for
volunteering in the drop-in seminar, including fun activities, food
and drinks, and the chance to meet other U of T students

drop-in centre shifts. We'll be happy to accommodate your schedule,
and find times that work for you
WHY: Because it will give you the opportunity to meet and hang out

Come join LGBTOUT for our first of many movie screenings where we will
be presenting Boy Culture. The space is comfortable and some food and
drinks will be provided. No booze please.

A successful male escort describes in a series of confessions his
tangled romantic relationships with his two roommates and an older,
enigmatic male client.

Boy Culture is an award-winning LGBT film adaptation of the novel of
the same name by Matthew Rettenmund.

While the story remains the same as the novel - a call boy (Magyar)
who goes by the name 'X' throughout the film in order to maintain his
anonymity and his relationships between his two roommates (Stephens &
Trent), one of whom he's in love with, and an enigmatic older client
(Bauchau) who challenges him to find his heart before he will consent
to sex.

We will hopefully be continuing movie nights every week following this
event. Starting January 29 the Waters Lounge will be showing the new
season of the L Word every other week. In between those weeks we also
hope to show other LGBTQ movies. However, this will not be in the

Pride Toronto's theme this year is "Unified," so the UT Pride Committee has decided to follow that theme by dressing as a sports team, or a Homecoming King or Queen. Fuck with gender. Come adorned in your athletic best (a jersey will be provided) and march - not just for fun, but for change. Joining us again is Samba Elegua, a local ensemble that will surely get you in the mood to march.

*1:00pm SHARP! Access to Rosedale Valley Rd. will be restricted after 1:00pm. You cannot join the parade after it has started.

If you are an undergraduate student in a first-entry division (Arts and Science, Engineering, Music, etc.) at any U of T campus, and you have made a volunteer contribution to creating change on campus or in the community through LGBTQ service and/or activism, you are invited to apply for an LGBTOUT Student Award.

One of these awards requires a demonstration of financial need, and is limited to Canadian citizens living in Ontario. If you do not satisfy these particular requirements you should still apply for the award that does not depend on financial need.

A confidential letter of reference must accompany the application, in addition to a one-page resume or description of community contribution.
