Join us for our third year of madness and mayhem in the village! This is our chance to show the engineering community our pride and give them a taste of the fun that can be found in the village! It's a great line-up this year, filled with free food, jello shooters, and drag queens! This is one of the most popular events of Godiva Week, so make sure you invite all of your friends.

We're meeting at SUDS at 8 pm and heading out around 8:30. The itinerary is as follows:

GLAM Cocktail Party!

invitation to a cocktail party at McKinsey & Company!

McKinsey & Company is a global management consultant firm that is well known
for employing the best and brightest graduates. Our former chair, David
Wong (NSCI 0T6), was employed by McKinsey's last year and has graciously
invited our Chapter to attend their Gays and Lesbians at McKinsey (GLAM)
cocktail event. This is an informal session with light refreshments about
how McKinsey supports their LGBTQ colleagues.

Coffeehouse Night!

Engineering Election: Voting Period Opens

As of Monday June 12, 12:00 am, I've opened the voting period for the Engineering Election. It will close as of Sunday June 18, 11:59pm.

Because I don't have access to the LGBTOUT Engineering website, I have not been able to post the campaign statement to the website as per the election policy. Alternatively, I've posted the statement on the main LGBTOUT site at http://www.lgbtout.com/engelection.shtml.

LGBTOUT Engineering Elections - Nomination period

Hi everyone,

It's that time of year when we select someone to replace the old chair who has consequently stayed his welcome. I opened the nomination period at the end-of-year dinner on Wednesday and it will continue for two weeks, followed by one week long campaign and election periods. All election business is done via email. The election nomination is longer by a week so that the election will be complete upon my return to Toronto. This way I can start working with the new chair as soon as possible.

James An has volunteered to be our CRO. The policies are outlined in the election guidelines which are published on our website at:

The election schedule is as follows:

Nomination period:
Wednesday May 10, 2006 to Tuesday May 23, 2006
Campaign period:
Wednesday May 24, 2006 to Tuesday May 30, 2006
Election period:
Wednesday May 31, 2006 to Tuesday June 6, 2006

Submit your nominations to the CRO at internal@lgbtout.com with your full name and preferred email address.
To outline what kind of responsibilities you will have as the LGBTOUT Engineering chair:

- Establish and follow a budget and apply for special project funding
- Work with the Faculty of Applied Science, Engineering Society, and LGBTOUT on joint ventures and to maintain relationships
- Organize a few social events and hold some meetings
- Maintain our main outreach and social events of the year including the Wine and Cheese and the Godiva Week Pub Tour
- Oversee the website and listserv

This may seem like a lot of things for a single person to do, but it really comes down to only a few extra hours a week with the kind of support we have within our group. You have the freedom to delegate the work to other members. During my time as chair, I've had the privilege of working with nearly all of our members as either organizers or volunteers for our events. There were nearly no events or initiatives that I was left alone upon, and the work has served me invaluably in developing my own skills in working in teams and dealing with conflict.

LGBTOUT Engineering has a great image and it is a fantastic group to work with thanks to our members. If you are questioning whether you want to do this job, don't think of it as merely an additional responsibility. It is arguably a better experience than a course in your degree in developing your professional skills, and far more fun. It also makes a great statement on your resume with the broad skills that you will learn and apply. Of course, above-all, it's a great deal more fun than most of our other extra-curricular clubs. Since when did chair of the concrete canoe organize a pub-crawl, or host a sexy party?

LGBTOUT's Annual General Meeting - Tuesday, April 18th

LGBTOUT's next General Meeting will be on Tuesday, April 18th at 5pm at the South Dining Hall in Hart House (ask at Hart House reception for directions). General Meetings are the forum through which LGBTOUT makes decisions concerning policy and events.

This is LGBTOUT's Annual General Meeting and will contain speeches from candidates running in LGBTOUT's elections. This meeting is an opportunity to ask these candidates any questions you might have as well as vote in the election.

If you have an agenda item or a motion you would like to have discussed at this GM, it must be submitted to internal@lgbtout.com by Sunday, April 16th. Only properly submitted agenda items or motions will be brought up at this meeting as it will already be long due to election issues.

Anyone wishing to vote by proxy at this meeting must send notification to internal@lgbtout.com no later than Monday, April 17th with the following information:
1) their name
2) the name of the member being authorised to exercise their vote
3) the date of the meeting for which the proxy will be valid

Engineering Coffeehouse and Oscar Movie Night

The Oscars are on Sunday, and there are some exciting queer films vying for the best picture award. So, if you've haven't seen a certain gay cowboy movie, come out to this coffeehouse and movie night. I can't publish the title, for if I broke the distribution restrictions, I'd end up with the MPAA on my back and in a mountain of trouble.

Try to make it out on Thursday, March 2nd from 6:00PM to 9:00PM at the usual place. We'll start the movie at 7:00PM.

We'll also have our standard coffeehouse fare and some chat. Topics of interest for the current and future meetings will be leadership for next year and ironing out our elections policies. Bring a mug and save the styrofoam trees.

LGBTOUT Engineering General Meeting

So it appears that statistical optimizations don't work with people. Because of the poor turnout last Wednesday, we will reschedule the meeting for a Friday night, which seems to work better for people. Our new and improved General Meeting and Coffeehouse to be held on Friday, February 10th from 5:00PM to 9:00PM.

We'll be discussing sex! Not necessarily about technique, but we'll chat about health and safer sex, resources available on campus and off campus, bathhouses and anonymous sex, and hopefully quash some myths and reveal some realities. We also hope to get some feedback from the Canadian University Queer Services Conference (CUQSC) held in Ottawa earlier in January. Feel free to bring your friends from engineering and beyond.

Boys Night Out

The next and long-awaited Boys' Night Out (BNO) party will be held on Saturday, February 4th, 2006! Things will start at 8:30PM at David's place, that's David Wong the LGBTOUT Engineering chair, a boy who knows what his hardhat and coveralls are really for. He will be joined in his host duties by our Exec-At-Large (quite large, really), Eric Woo.

Boys' Night Out is all about celebrating our queer sexuality. Our goal is to create positive and affirming spaces where people can set aside shame, safely explore their boundaries, and experience new things. We provide some drinks and some games and you come and participate in whatever you feel up to. Past events have included porn (watching!), strip poker, visits to Remington's (the strip club), bathhouse touring, identify the underwear owner contest, and more. Some of what we have planned may challenge you, but we urge you to consider "stretching the envelope" -- you're among friends.

Those who want to will head out around midnight to wherever they think is a good place to continue the party. Bars, dancing, the strip club, bathhouses -- nothing is off limits. Those who want to stay at David's place are welcome to.
